Languages and Food.....yummy, yummy!!!!

Our lesson today is to make a recipe!! ouhyeah!!

What are we learning?

During the lesson we are going to practice the name of some aliments, the food measures, some verbs related with cooking and the verbs tenses necessaries.


Let´s start cooking!


How to prepare a traditional Italian tiramisu:

INGREDIENTS

3 large eggs
500 grams [12.3 oz] mascarpone cheese
Espresso or strong coffee
Boudoir biscuits/ Lady fingers/ thin cakes
(optional) 1 cup of cognac
Powdered cocoa [for instant chocolate drink mix]
Sugar (to taste)

STEPS

1. Crack and make 3 large eggs into two different bowls (use a large bowl for the egg white and a smaller bowl for the yolk). Make sure that none of the yolk gets mixed with the egg white, otherwise the egg whites won't whisk properly.

2. Whisk the egg yolks with an electronic whisk and gradually add sugar until the egg yolk becomes thick, creamy, and light yellow.

3. Add about 5oo grams [~12.3 oz.] of Mascarpone in another bowl and give it a quick stir to loosen it up. Then, with the electronic whisk, mix the egg yolks and Mascarpone together.

4. Wash and dry your whisk and then whisk the egg whites until they form firm peaks. Continue to fold the egg whites into the Mascarpone and mix until there are no lumps.

5. Put that to the side. Make some strong espresso and let it cool.

6. Line a large and fairly deep dish with lady fingers (boudoir biscuits) and pour over two thirds of the coffee mixture.

7. Put half of your egg mixture over the top of that, followed by a thick dusting of cocoa. Use an instant drinking chocolate, as it's a little sweeter.

8. Dip more lady fingers into the rest of your coffee mix (don't worry if you run out; you can just knock up some more) and carefully place them over the the top of the cocoa.

9. Empty the rest of your egg mixture over that and dust with cocoa again.

10. Leave it in your refrigerator for two hours and serve.

RESULT: 

During the lesson we will have different Discussion tasks.

The first discussion task is just to talk about the ingredients needed for this recipe (without having the recipe above). All of us we will talk about the names of food they know and the teacher will give them new ones. 

The second discussion task is to know the measures (a cup of, a liter..) Once again we will discuss about the item all together. 

And finally, the best part of the lesson is to make a real recipe in the class. 

The teacher has to use different verbs to introduce the recipe like cut, peel, mix, blend; and also, he or she has to use the imperative ten while giving the students orders of how to cook a tiramisu. 

If the class is too big, we can divide into groups and make different tiramisu, so it could be a kitchen competition!!!

This kind of lesson is the best way to motivate students with kinesthetic way to learn, those who like doing things with themselves, the "do-ers" students. They will learn while doing something.

We have to performance a short theatre about this book.

On groups of four people, you have to choose one character (not only the ones in the book, you can choose whoever you want).

Example: Salinger, Mark David Chapman, John Lennon, a policeman. 

(Because you know all the curiosities, don´t you?)

This exercise is a motivating activity to learn about literature and it can help those students who don´t like reading the book and making an essay or a quiz. Here, the students have to learn about the book through a performance, and they will not realize that they are learning until they perform and see their partners´performances.  

This way of teaching results very motivating for interpersonal and intrapersonal learners.
